this guy a work with asked if he could test drive my car with me

this guy that I work with used to sell B.M.W.'s. I saw him driving his sportscar once when I was leaving work. so, I asked him if he wanted to buy my car for $1,000.

He was telling me today that I should just trade it in. However, I know that if I trade it in, the person will tell me "I'll give you $1,000" but really they give you $100 and raise the price of the vehicle you want to buy $900, that's what I've been told. the mechanic said I should just put an add in the paper to sell my car.
